Dr. Syed Imam - Vice President of R&D, Bontera Addressing the Nitrogen Challenge:
Bontera Nitrofix was developed with the intention of addressing a growing challenge in the agriculture industry: nitrogen leeching. Nitrogen is indispensable for plant growth, yet its misuse and overuse have caused serious environmental damage, financial strain on growers, and inefficiencies in crop production. Growers use a process called Nitrogen Fixation to either naturally or artificially convert atmospheric nitrogen into ammonia for plants to absorb and utilize. However, more than half of the nitrogen fertilizer applied to crops is lost to the environment, leeching into streams and rivers, thereby polluting water sources and releasing greenhouse gases. With global pressure to reduce nitrogen use by 50%, growers need a smarter, more efficient solution.
Bontera Nitrofix enhances nitrogen fixation, seed germination, and root development with a high-performing blend of eight different nitrogen-fixing microbial strains. This microbial approach ensures a consistent supply of nitrogen throughout the growing season, even after growers’ initial fertilizer applications have ceased. These microbes reduce the dependency on synthetic nitrogen fertilizers while also improving soil health and boosting crop yields. The recent launch of Bontera Nitrofix in Turkey represents not only a milestone for the company but also a turning point for growers who seek to balance productivity with sustainability.
Why Turkey?
The decision to launch Bontera Nitrofix in Turkey came after great success with Bontera SA-10, our original, all-round microbial enhancer. It demonstrated that Turkish growers were ready to embrace biologicals and emphasized a strong trust with dealers and growers by consistently delivering results that exceeded those of competitors. Chemical-based agriculture in Turkey, much like the rest of the world, started to significantly deteriorate the health of the soil and reduce crop yields. At the same time, the increasing input costs of fertilizers, nitrogen, and other nutrients posed serious challenges for growers, prompting them to seek alternative approaches. Government policies and the core strategies of the Ministry of Agriculture in Turkey have become increasingly focused on sustainability. Motivated by these factors and the growing global and national interest in microbial-based products, the team at Greenza LLC, our distributor, made the decision to introduce Bontera Nitrofix to the market and their trusted partners, dealers, and customers.
The Launch
Bontera Nitrofix was officially launched in Turkey in November 2024 across the Aegean, Marmara and Thrace, Çukurova, and Central Anatolia regions by Greenza LLC. Initially, Nitrofix was introduced to open-field applications, and by June 2025, the product was also being rolled out for greenhouse crops following awareness meetings with growers.
Beginning in the 2023–2024 season, in collaboration with business partners, the team at Greenza conducted field trials across all crop categories. The results were overwhelmingly positive: vegetables, fruits, and field crops treated with Nitrofix demonstrated improved nitrogen absorption, stronger growth, enhanced resilience, and higher yields.
These results were shared with growers through field demonstrations and educational meetings, which helped build excitement and trust in the product.
Success Stories:
One of the most compelling demonstrations of the effectiveness of Bontera Nitrofix came from rice trials conducted by Çağrı Kuşçuoğlu, a young and innovative grower who works with one of Greenza’s key partners, Çalışkan Tarım, in the Gönen district of Balıkesir. Three adjacent plots were established: a control plot, a plot treated with a competing nitrogen- fixation product, and a plot treated with Bontera Nitrofix. In all three plots, standard seeding, spraying, and fertilization practices were carried out uniformly via drone. Additionally, Bontera SA-10 was applied across all plots as both a seed coating and a foliar spray.
According to multispectral analysis, the Nitrofix-treated area exhibited a stronger nitrogen profile and superior plant development compared to both the control and the competing product. Measured in yield per decare, the control plot achieved 940.79 kg/decare, while the competitor’s plot yielded 923.68 kg/decare. In contrast, the Bontera Nitrofix plot delivered a significantly higher yield of 975 kg/decare. Most notably, the combination of Bontera SA-10 with Bontera Nitrofix proved to be the most successful treatment overall. This underscores our integrated approach at Bontera: by pairing microbial enhancers that address multiple aspects of plant and soil health, growers can achieve consistently higher yields and more resilient crops.
In another case, after severe frost damage in Turkey’s Çukurova region this past February, Aytaç and Gürcan, two growers from Greenza’s key partner, Ag Agro Danışmanlık, saw a remarkable recovery just six days after applying Bontera Nitrofix to their onion field (see below for images).

Since its launch, Nitrofix has been widely adopted and well received by Turkish growers who have consistently reported key benefits, including:
• Continuous nitrogen absorption throughout the season
• Reduced nitrogen losses compared to traditional fertilizers
• Enhanced plant growth and health
• Increased resilience to stressors
• Noticeably higher yields
Beyond these general benefits, success stories and testimonials from across Turkey continue to validate the product and reinforce Nitrofix as a market-leading microbial solution.
Looking Ahead:
The launch of Bontera Nitrofix in Turkey extends beyond immediate yield gains. It represents a broader shift toward sustainable farming practices by reducing dependency on synthetic fertilizers and promoting healthy soil microbial diversity. Healthier soils mean stronger plants that can withstand climatic stresses, paving the way for more resilient farming systems.
Moreover, the team at Bontera and Greenza is driven by a desire to contribute to Turkey's goals of sustainable agriculture and healthier food production. With the continued adoption of Bontera Nitrofix, its impact will translate into reduced environmental damage, lower input costs for growers, and higher-quality food for consumers.
As Gökhan Karadayı, Co-Partner at Greenza LLC says, “we are confident in our commitment to bountiful harvests through healthy soil and strong plants”.
